With a birder!
I'm so excited, but also I have to totally play cool and stuff
you know,
so not to scare the birds away.

You can participate in your own backyard and record how many and I guess what types of birds you see.
https://www.birdcount.org/participate/

We are going by the Columbia river.

She takes her birding very seriously I think so I will mostly observe and follow her cues.

Birding?
Bird peeping?
Bird stalking?
Avian reconnaissance?

We counted 20 species in our main count which lasted about 1.5 hours 2.5 miles along the Columbia.
And then we stopped by this place where the DOT drops off dead deer/animal carcases from the road kill-and that is where the eagles and ravens hang out.
And then we stopped by a city park and counted duck species and other water fowl. I never knew there were so many species in our area. She only hushed me once! :D

Also we saw an injured deer swimming, it made it to shore and we could tell its front leg was broken. : ( Probably got hit by a car.

I think it could go either way. I've stared down a couple of ducks in my time, and maybe a chicken or two and a parrot. I think they always turn away first!

That is outrageous for sure. Outrageous that I don't have more time to come to your neck of the woods and go birding.

I have an app on my phone that records birds sounds and will tell me what type of bird it is. I can then save them to my "found birds" log or library. I don't usually save them unless I can verify it or if I also see it.
Tonight I heard a robin, but there was also another sound so I turned the app on and it picked up a bird called "Hairy Woodpecker" !!!
The cool thing about the app is it has a description of the bird and various sounds it can make-indeed it def sounded like the bird I heard, but I would like to see it before I record it.

I have some bird favorites now just by thier sound.
